FragFest Information
If you’ve not been to a FragFest before then here are a few details about the regular event.
It’s a BYOC LAN party. Meaning you bring your own computer to the venue, set yourself up on one of the tables, hook yourself into the network and game the day away with the rest of us. We tend to play modern and popular games that most people own. It’s also important that they be able to run well without an internet connection as we don’t have one. This rules Steam games out for the most part as it’s given us grief pretty much every LAN. But if you do have Steam games it’s best to make sure they are up to date before you travel to the LAN, just incase.
As the games are modern, it means you’re going to need a reasonable spec’ed PC to take part. Reasonable processor (Intel P4 minimum), 1-2gigs of RAM, decent graphics card (Geforce 6800 minimum really). These spec’s are just a guess at the minimum, they wouldn’t really run the games very well at all. Also you need to have a 10/100/1000Mbit Ethernet network port for plugging into the network. Other than your PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse and headset, you shouldn’t forget to bring a power splitter as we don’t have enough plugs to go round. If you don’t have a network cable then that’s not a problem as we have quite a few to lend. We have a no speakers rule that you will find at any BYOC LAN. The room would get too damn noisy if everyone brought speakers. Laptop’s are fine to bring if it can handle the games.
For more information about the current line-up of games that are likely to be played, check the news post for the LAN on the front page of the site.
We currently host the LANs in the concourse bar at the Lawns Centre in Cottingham. It’s a nice big hall to your left as you come in the front door. The day runs from 10am-9pm normally thou again check the news post for the latest details. The Lawns open the food bit upstairs in the early afternoon selling drinks and sandwiches. We also make our traditional mass take away order getting onto evening. It’s still important to bring snacks and drinks thou, the perfect gaming partner
Price of the event is £2 for members of the society and £4 for non-members. If you intend to go would you be so kind as to post this on the FragFest thread in the forums so we can get an idea of numbers attending.
