Not the sort of LoL you might be thinking!
This time it stands for LAN on LABS. The wounderful Dept of Computer Science are allowing us free run of the games lab (FE-177?) to host a bring only yourself LAN party. Thats right no PC’s are needed as they have pretty powerful one’s ready and waiting. Games for the day will be preinstalled and configured on the machines so in theory we can get even more game time in than with the traditional LANs.
We are still working out the details, particually for game licences as this has to be done by the book. Some games we have got premission to use, but for others like Call of Duty 4 we might ask you bring your own copy to prove you have a licence and you effectivly play with that even thou you don’t really need the copy. If you don’t own it then you can play one of the other games that don’t require a licence.
More details such as the day and duration have also got to be worked out but things are looking promosing. This is looking to be a very special event.
In an effort to run more regular LAN parties we’ve setup the next one for Sat 8th March. Ususal arrangement as we always have, one of these day’s I’ll write a webpage with all the details on. Check the FF11 post below if you don’t know the drill. 10am-9pm. Lawns Centre.
This might be a problem for those staying in the halls as this is the lawns kick out date I believe. Hopefully it isn’t and you can come, but if not the LAN will still be going ahead on the 8th. Reason we picked this date over a more Lawns friendly one is because regular attendee’s can’t do the earlier weekend and lawns turnout has been poor recently.
The FF11 will be happening on Saturday 2nd Febuary. 10am to 9pm. Usual affair as the other FFs. Particular games of interest that should be played are CoD4, TF2, ET:QW and of course the customary RTS game. Also we’re hoping to introduce Savage2, the sequal to the version of Savage we have played thus far. Of course this isn’t a definitive list as it is likely to change as the mood takes us on the day. So pretty much come prepared and patched with the games you do own. I empathsise this point every time. Please run Steam online before you packup in the morning as Valve have a tendancy to release updates on the morning of the LAN.
New members or members new to the LANs are welcome. The rules are basic. No speakers. Bring your computer and headset. Any games you wanta play. Snack food. Power splitter and network cable if you have one. If not then we have limited spares. The bar will be opening upstairs in the lawns centre in the early afternoon selling drinks and sandwiches. We normally make a big take away order together in the evening.
It’s at the lawns centre, nearly forgot to mention that. Any questions then please post on the forum. Price is, can’t remember off the top of my head. Same as it was for the last one :p. Only a couple of quid to members i think, and a fiver to non members.
Anywho, see you there ![]()
